A rare Kittinger reproduction of one of the most famous pieces of furniture in American history. The desk is said to have served for the signing of the treaty that established American independence. The original of this desk is in the collection of the Department of State in Washington, D.C.
Provenance of the original antique: David Hartley (1731-1813), British Commisioner at the signing of the Treaty of Paris, September 3, 1783; to John Wilmot (Chief Commisioner for settling claims of the American loyalists), in whose family it remained until 1843. The desk was later passed to other owners until finally the desk was donated to the Department of State in 1963.
